Genre allows audiences to identify the type of music they are listening to. It can give people a sense of who they are.

genric codes and conventions

genric codes relate certain genre. It can be linked to the type of music being played e.g hip hop music videos would have an artist having chains, watches etc. a convention would be women in the video wearing provocative clothing. A well known artist would be snopp dogg. genric codes allows us to identify audience. The issue can be that your audience can be limited.this can involve stereotyping audiences into groups. i will find my audience taste through research. Although music can be a hybrid e.g grime is a mixture of rap and garage.
